IJslander in brief

IJslander has been building on the future since 1996. We teach children and young adults how to discover more about themselves and the world around them. We show adults that playtime can still be fun. And we challenge the elderly to remain fit and active. We do this with our durable, low-maintenance and 100% recyclable sports and play equipment made from only the strongest of materials. If you are looking for a stainless steel playground equipment supplier, for indoors and outdoors, then you have come to the right place.

IJslander playground and sports equipment is designed, made and certified according to the European play and sports norm. We do not make equipment for private gardens and we do not have factory sales or stock sales.

Circular economy

We strive for a circular economy. We also call it a transition from possession to use. To go from possession to use, it is possible to purchase equipment through a user fee. We have also developed a platform for our sustainable solution ‘growth spaces’. The 4 pillars of this platform are: cost savings, flexibility, sustainability and participation.

Cradle to Cradle concept

Additionally, we produce as environmentally friendly as possible. We do this, for instance, by filtering and reusing water and safely removing the filtered substances. The sustainable production process and use of 100% recyclable materials means that our smart appliances can be reused in other items, reducing the environmental impact to a minimum and preventing waste of resources. This is IJslanders’ interpretation of the Cradle to Cradle concept.

To design sports areas and playgrounds as completely and efficiently as possible, with safe and durable equipment, surfaces, landscaping and accessories, IJslander works with a number of partners:

Brandstof Reductie

Repurchase of equipment

Specifically, this means that we repurchase the low-maintenance, vandal-resistant and weatherproof stainless steel equipment in order to recycle it once it has exceeded its useful economic life (10-15 years). As you see, your sports or playground retains its value! Even after heavy use; because the way IJslander treats the stainless steel (passivation) means that the equipment will continue to look good and inviting, and will be recycled without any loss of value. For instance, a Citybox playground can be recycled into bollards and litter bins to a park bench.

Cradle to Cradle

After reaching its useful economic life, IJslander reuses the equipment according to the Cradle to Cradle principle which states that: waste is food. This means that any materials or resources used must be completely recycled without losing any value. It is essential – because materials cannot be used twice for the same application – that a product is given a second life by means of ‘upcycling’. In other words: the original product must be recycled into another product of the same value. And this is exactly what IJslander does with the sports and playground equipment that is beyond its useful economic life.

Quality

We produce our sports and play equipment according to strict standards in our own workshop of the highest quality. We have been doing this since the first play equipment rolled out of our workshop and this has remained unchanged for 25 years.

Because the devices require little maintenance, are highly resistant to all weather conditions and vandalism, they have a long economic life and are low-maintenance. The IJslander installation team

IJslander has its own team of specialists for the installation of our durable, safe and low-maintenance play and sports equipment. Just like our designers and production staff, our technicians always aim to provide the highest quality. They install any device to perfection, therefore ensuring that the neighbourhood sports area or playground are safe and high-quality.

Through the use and reuse of recyclable materials and innovative solutions, we are working towards a constructive solution for the future in terms of achieving structural reductions in the total cost of ownership.

Professional inspection and maintenance

Apart from the installation of our equipment, we also provide certified inspection and maintenance services. Our quality standards are just as high as for the production and installation of sports and play equipment. Inspection and maintenance by IJslander means you can rely on a high-quality product that remains in excellent condition.

Certified inspectors

Various IJslander employees are SVS* and SVS** certified. This means that they have been trained by the Safe Play Foundation (Stichting Veilig Spelen). This foundation provides thorough training in order to improve and assess the skills of inspectors and the quality of playground equipment in public spaces. The certification is gained through exams by qualified SVS inspectors.

IJslander works together with SpeelPlan, an organisation that inspects playgrounds and sports areas. SpeelPlan is an expert in performing safety inspections for playgrounds. Their inspectors are all SVS** certified and receive regular training to keep their knowledge up to date.
